Apps and Freeview on AppleTV

In the house we've connected all the screen's to AppleTV devices for convenience and consistency. From the AppleTV you can not only watch your favorite content through the vast ecosystem of apps for the AppleTV but each AppleTV has the Channels app installed which gives you terrestrial access to the UK's freeview channels.

Beaming to the US

It's not uncommon for guests from the US to open their favorite ATV app and find that geo restrictions mean you either can't watch anything on the app or the content that you have available has been adjusted to the local UK market.

If you'd like to "pretend" you're in the US you can do this by opening the Tailscale app which is already installed on the Apple TV device and switching the "exit node" to "US Television".

Please be considerate when you leave and if you have switched the TV to be in the US, turn that setting off before you leave.
